To clarify, when the Fed buys Treasuries, it increases money supply but not the debt.

Again and again, I hear that when the Fed (or any other central bank) prints money that it lays a burden on future generations. This is absolutely false. Since the benefit of the increase in money is returned to the Treasury, it has no effect on what is owed. However, because the Treasuries are purchased with created money, it does increase the total money supply. This, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. Money supply must be increased by (real growth rate + target inflation rate) / velocity. If real growth is 3.0%, the inflation target is 2.5% and the velocity is 1.7, it means that the Fed must buy or otherwise create 5.5%/1.7 of the beginning year real GDP. If GDP is 22 trillion (about right), then money supply needs to be increased by 712 billion USD. In the past, this was done through fractional lending by the large banks and the financial benefit accrued to them. When it is done by purchasing Treasuries, the benefit accrues to the taxpayer.

Clearly, the government's deficit spending has far exceeded that over the last two years. So, there is some real deficit spending that will, through one mechanism or another increase, need to be financed. I actually look into this in my blog article, 'How an Additional 4 Trillion USD Gets Financed'.

Hi all, I live in Canada. And the article " The Inappropriately Excluded " is really something that deeply resonates with me, and has helped make sense of my life. That I've been going back to it for years as a reference. But today found out there is this meetup group. Excellent stuff!
So I'm wondering what are people's interests here?
I like transition planning, and how we'll get through the end of oil,
archival of important documents, talking to international advisors and politicians about it. Also run several businesses. And do a lot of religious stuff,
cause that's best way of connecting with the uh IQ challenged majority in terms they can understand. So for that I run anabaptist.ca and got like outreach for all sorts of faiths, like humanism, islam, communists, chinese, hindus, christians etc: https://anabaptist.ca/dyet/

Move to Canada? Why?

After Dobbs v Jackson, people are saying they want to move to Canada? Why? There is no part of Canada that allows abortion after 23 weeks. And, of course, nowhere in Europe are abortions legal after 24 weeks. So, if one really feels that access abortion is so important, the best thing to do is move to California. It has the most Progressive abortion laws pretty much anywhere, save China, North Korea, and Vietnam. Honestly, if this is your thing, then you should move to California. Whatever state you are in, they will celebrate your departure.
